PLAB 2
This is an OSCE(objective Structured Clinical Examination)
The format was changed in September 2016.
It now consists of 18 active stations and 2 rest stations (20 stations in all),2 minutes to read the task in front of the station and 8 minutes to perform the actual task making a total of 10 minutes per station and about 3 hours 20 minutes for the exam .

It is only held in MANCHESTER,ENGLAND at the GMC clinical assessment building ,3 Hardman Street

held throughout the year,with multiple dates in a month , places however get filled quickly so you have to plan and book fast to secure your desired date.

SCORING
Each station/scenario is scored over 12 with a passing mark determined for the station after the exam based on the performance of the candidates on that particular day. Candidates are scored in 3 domains for each station; Data gathering {history and examination} - 4 marks ; management - 4 marks ; interpersonal skills - 4 marks making a total of 12 marks .The total passing mark for the day is obtained by collating the passmarks of all 18 stations. To pass PLAB 2 , a candidate has to pass at least 11 out of the 18 stations as well as get a mark equal to or above the total passmark for that day. It is a MUST to fulfil these 2 criteria.Read more on this here.
PREPARATON
ACADEMY - The PLAB exam cannot be the first time you are facing such rigorous tasks of having to perform 18 different tasks in quick succession.It is highly recommended that you join a prep course to familiarise with the format of the OSCE. You will be able to partake in mocks that give you a feel of the real exam.i have expanded more on this under MY PLAB 2.
However, a number of people have practised on their own and via skype and still passed.So as we say,there are no absolutes in medicine.The choice is yours.
VALIDITY
PLAB 2 is valid for 2 years ,starting from the date you took the exams not when you had your results.You should have obtained GMC registration within this period.
There is a maximum attempt of 4 times.
